Arne Slot has told Darwin Nunez what he requires from his striker.
The 2024/25 season has been one of disappointment for Nunez, who finds himself behind Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in the current rankings of No.
9.
The Uruguay international has managed just seven goals and five assists across all competitions this season.
His struggle for consistent playing time is evident, with only 16 starts from his 42 appearances.
While he has had his moments, with his double to win the game at Brentford in January probably the highlight, Nunez has struggled to make any sort of impact as the Reds close in on the Premier League title.
As it stands, he is expected to leave for greener pastures in the summer, with several top European clubs, as well as clubs in Saudi Arabia, showing genuine interest in him.
But while he remains at Liverpool and could play a huge part in Liverpool’s last six games of the season, Slot has laid out what he requires from him.
“Simple one is goals,” the Liverpool manager said during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Sunday game against Leicester City.
“He needs to produce goals, but apart from that, in modern football, No.9s have to work hard and be part of an intense pressing team.
Can I say that?”
“In the end, it’s a help if a No.9 of Liverpool scores goals.
That is the short answer.”
